The images of more than 60 members of the U.S. Army who served in World War 1, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan are engraved on the U. S. Army Monument which was unveiled during a ceremony at the New Hampshire State Veterans Ceremony on Memorial Day. The monument was unveiled by Gov. John Lynch and retired Brig. Gen. Stephen Curry following a dedication ceremony.
Lynch paid tribute the members of the Gold Star Mothers attending the ceremony saying they have sacrificed so much by the loss of their children. He also paid tribute to those men and women who have served or are still serving in the Army.
Jonathan Halle of Warrenstreet Architects in Concord, NH was approached to design the monument, and he agreed to donate his time. When asked, Halle said, “My dad’s retired Army, and you just can’t say no.” New Hampshire corporations whose contributions helped fund the monument included Laconia Savings Bank, Public Service of New Hampshire, and Service Credit Union of Portsmouth.
