I eat fast. There’s no doubt about it. Always have, always will. It’s gotten worse since becoming a Mom and working at home. But I’m determined to slow it down.
I was telling my husband a while back, while eating a Subway sandwich rather rapidly, that I feel I’ve started to eat much faster because I’m always ready for my meal to be interrupted. It never fails, when I sit down to eat, someone or something else, namely my son, will need my attention. It’s usually him but it also might be I need to get back to work quickly, I have a pilates appointment, I need to get to the gym soon so my food needs time to digest, whatever. There are many reasons.
My husband said something to me rather obvious but instantly brilliant. He said, what if I were to eat slower, so when I came back to finish my meal, or before my meal is through, I wouldn’t really be that hungry anymore. Therefore, I would be cutting down on the calories. He had cause to say this, as I’m always remarking on watching my calorie intake and working out. Well, he is so right (by the way, he also eats fast). Just eat slower.
Now don’t get me wrong, I have no intention of becoming a “bird” eater. People who eat insanely slow somehow get on my nerves. I’m also a fast paced person, always on the go and my life style requires a decent amount of calories. I’m also breastfeeding, so there you go.
I have vowed to slow down my eating habits while maintaining a good amount of calories for my energy level. But I also want to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight, so I need to be mindful of the fine balance. I’m finding that balance, but I do love to eat…fast!
