Author Betsy Beard visits Military Mom Talk Radio

As the surviving mom of SPC Bradley Beard, who was killed in action in Iraq, Betsy Beard has been associated with TAPS since 2004, first as a survivor requesting a Peer Mentor and then as a participant in the National Survivor Seminar. Betsy became a TAPS Peer Mentor in May of 2005 after attending Peer Mentor Training. She began to write extensively in 2005 and has published articles in TAPS Magazine, Living with Loss Magazine, and Hospice Foundation of America’s 2008 Living with Grief.
Betsy is the editor for the national quarterly TAPS Magazine. She also assists with the writing of various other TAPS publications including the award-winning children’s book, Klinger, A Story of Honor and Hope.

Betsy has served as a support group facilitator and workshop presenter at TAPS regional and national seminars and currently co-facilitates the Raleigh, North Carolina TAPS Care Group. She has presented workshops on bereavement for the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Regional and National Trainings and participated in the Casualty Notification training for the United States Army Casualty and Mortuary Affairs Operation Center (CMAOC).

Prior to the death of her son, Betsy worked in the banking industry, home-schooled her children through high school, and spent 21 years working in hospital laboratories as a Medical Laboratory Technologist.

Military Mom Talk Radio presents Elaine Wilson, editor and writer of “Family Matters” – July 12th

Elaine Wilson, Family Matters, DoD blog, American Forces Press Service blog, Elaine Wilson, editor and writer for the Defense Department’s American Forces Press Service, launched the “Family Matters” blog in August 2009 to provide resources and support to military families, as well as to encourage a dialogue on topics ranging from deployments and separations to the challenges of everyday life.  Check it out at http://afps.dodlive.mil/

Elaine Wilson has worked as a military journalist for nearly 15 years. Elaine served for nearly eight years in the active-duty Air Force before separating and joining the Air Force Reserve.  She worked as an Army civilian for four years at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, and then moved to the D.C. area to take a job with the Defense Department’s American Forces Press Service nearly two years ago. She no longer serves in the military, but is proud to continue to serve her nation as a Defense Department civilian. Elaine is married and has three children, ranging in ages from 1 to 8, and a stepdaughter who lives in Texas.

Military Mom Talk Radio presents Andi Hurley of SpouseBUZZ, June 14, 2010

In 2006, Andi Hurley developed an interest in using blogs to keep the military community connected and supported, so she founded SpouseBUZZ.com, a blog authored by military spouses, for military spouses. SpouseBUZZ focuses on the daily grind of milspouse life.

Andi is also the founder and organizer of The MilBlog Conference, an annual conference for military bloggers. The conference celebrated its fifth anniversary on April 10. While stationed in Washington, DC, Andi was the ambassador to Walter Reed for Sew Much Comfort, a non-profit organization which makes and distributes adaptive clothing to our wounded heroes. Since leaving Washington, Andi has continued to work with military non-profits in a variety of ways. Andi is married to an active-duty soldier.
