Harry Leibowitz grew up in humble beginnings in Brooklyn, New York – throughout World War II and into the early 1950’s his family lived in an old bungalow in Coney Island where ten families shared the common bathroom facilities and he began working long hours upon becoming a teenager. Through these experiences, he developed an incredible work ethic and an appreciation for the plight of children born into challenging circumstances.

Harry went on to enjoy a successful business career, and with years of business travels around the world Harry observed firsthand the plight of children in developing countries and made a lasting impression.  In 1996, Harry had a vision for the World of Children Award when he was recovering from cancer surgery at age 55. Watching the Pulitzer Prize announcements on TV, he noted that while there was a Pulitzer for art and literature, and a Nobel for the sciences and peace, and an Oscar for films, there were no awards for those who were tirelessly serving children in need.

That realization was a catalyst for Harry, and he subsequently founded the World of Children Award with vital support from Starr Commonwealth. A decade later, Harry now devotes all his time to running the World of Children Award – serving as Board Chair and visiting the World of Children Award’s Honorees around the globe.

She published her first article in high school back in 1965.  Her writing credentials include many magazine, newspaper & web articles.  She also wrote columns — “The History of Aerial Applications” for AG Pilot International and one on writing topics for webzine “Scribe & Quill.”  She is a ghostwriter, an editor and a web, newspaper & book designer.

She has been a member of MWSA since 2006 and has served as Secretary and MWSA Webmaster since January of 2008.  Her skills include Management, Project Management, Web Site Design, Writing and Layout.  She volunteered for the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center for several years and has led various corporate, community and volunteer committees & organizations. John Gorman was born in Minnesota, attended high school in Illinois and Iowa. After graduation enlisted in the United States Air force where he served as an Aircraft Loadmaster out of Charleston AFB South Carolina on C141 Star lifter cargo aircraft, accumulating 10,000 flight hours hauling cargo and troops all over the world. He was involved in many campaigns, some of these were Operation Desert Storm/Gulf War, Operation Urgent Fury, Grenada, missions to Beirut, Operation Just Cause, Panama as well as humanitarian missions to Haiti, Somalia and elsewhere, including some stateside. He graduated from the NCO Academy, and attended the Community College of the Air Force, was awarded the Air Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the Meritorious Service Award, achieved the rank of MSgt and was honorably discharged in 1997. He earned his FCC Amateur Radio License, FAA Aircraft Dispatcher license and later his FAA Private Pilot License in 2000.
 
He started his Pocket Constitution site as a labor of love and a hobby with his mom in mind in 1997 the year she died. His mother loved her country, was a member of the American Legion and VFW Ladies Auxiliary’s she’d sell poppies every year and during the Vietnam War bought and wore MIA bracelets. His grandfather was a WWI Veteran, father was a WWII Veteran, uncle is a Korean War Veteran and brother is a Vietnam War Veteran, all loved and love their country. There were additional reasons though that he started this Pocket Constitution site, some of them are as follows. He found it very difficult finding pocket constitutions and remembers calling the Government Printing Office about it back then and the GPO representative had know idea what he was talking about. Also he believes it is important to have a more informed citizenry, public and voter. Too many of our institutions, media outlets and schools no longer inform us about the ideas of America’s founders. John now resides in Henderson, Nevada, and is the owner and sole proprietor of Dorseygor Press.  100% Veteran Owned.

Sandra Miller Linhart was born and raised in the mountainous town of Lander, Wyoming.  Here she was able to cultivate her love of reading, due in no small part to the fact the nearest record store was a two hour drive away, and the local radio station played only country and classic music.  Were it not for this, Ms. Linhart might today be a rock star, or, at the very least, have better taste in music.  However, with a well-stocked library within walking distance, she often found herself taking long journeys into the wonderful worlds created by the minds of Ursula K. Le Guin, Madeleine L’Engle, Stephen King and, of course, Judy Blume in the dusty basement of the Fremont County Public Library.

Growing up in poverty, Sandra’s escape from her stark reality came printed and neatly tucked between the dust-laden, beaten covers on the library bookshelves, yearning for attention.  Not content merely to travel to these places created by the wordsmiths she admired, Sandra knew she wanted to craft her own mental destinations for others to enjoy.

Being deployed is a fact of life for soldiers.  Humanitarian efforts, operations other than war (OOW), peaceful or wartime missions, a soldier’s duty is to be there.  Sometimes it means leaving little ones behind wondering why.

DADDY’S BOOTS & MOMMA’S BOOTS give a voice to our little ones’ questions and concerns:  Where does Daddy or Momma go?  What does he do?  Might she get hurt?  When will they come back?  But, more importantly, the books give assurance and hope to military children that their parent’s duty is an honorable one.

Charles Toth Principal Deputy Director & Associate Director for Education

As the Principal Deputy Director and Associate Director for Education for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), Mr. Charles Toth is responsible for the instructional and educational programs for DoDEA’s 192 schools located throughout the world. He also oversees personnel operations involving more than 13,000 DoDEA employees who support military families overseas and in the United States and her territories.

With nearly 39 years’ experience in education, Toth has served in DoDEA schools for 28 years. Mr. Toth served as Acting Associate Director for Education and Principal Deputy Director from June 2008. In October 2007, he was selected as the Assistant Associate Director for Education. As the Assistant Associate Director for Education, Toth provided leadership in planning, executing, and evaluating the effectiveness of DoDEA’s core programs in education, assessment, research and evaluation, procurement, budgeting, and professional development.

Prior to coming to the headquarters operation, Mr. Toth served as the District Superintendent for the Korea District where he was the chief instructional leader for schools on the Korean Peninsula since 2004. Prior to that, he was the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction for DoDEA’s Bavaria District Schools in Kitzingen, Germany. Toth spent several years as a high school principal at Wuerzburg High School in Germany and Alconbury High School in England and as an assistant principal at Lakenheath High School, Lakenheath, England, Frankfurt Middle School and Frankfurt High School in Frankfurt, Germany. He also taught in Germany at Frankfurt High School, Giessen High School, Bitburg High School and Osterholz High School.

Prior to his career with DoDEA schools, Toth taught at Chesterville Junior High School in Sparta, Ohio, and at Valley High School and Magnolia High School in Wetzel County, West Virginia.

Toth, a native of Morgantown, WV, received his Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University in 1991. He is a 1966 graduate of West Virginia University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in physical education. Mr. Toth has been active in several professional organizations including serving as president of the Germany Chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. He is a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. He is past president of the International Chapter of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and the Federal Managers Association.

DoDEA plans, directs, coordinates, and manages pre-kindergarten – 12th grade education programs for Department of Defense (DoD) dependents who would otherwise not have access to a high-quality public education. DoDEA schools are located in Europe, the Pacific, the United States, Cuba, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoDEA also provides support and resources to Local Education Activities throughout the U.S. that serve children of military families.

Kathleen Facon, Partnership Branch Chief DoDEA

Kathleen  Facon worked as the Chief, Installations and Communities for the Educational Partnerships Branch within DoDEA. She served as a liaison to military service representatives and DoD components to develop, monitor, and facilitate policy enhancements, programs and understandings that positively impact military children’s education and well-being with a special emphasis on ensuring seamless transitions and deployment support.

“My professional career has centered around service to military families-especially children,” said Facon. “I have a great deal of respect and admiration for the foundation that has been laid in the Partnership program and I will continue to work toward our mission to promote quality education and seamless transitions for military students.”

“I believe it’s both an honor and an obligation to serve the families of those who so courageously defend and protect our country,” she said.

Over the past 18 years, Facon served in military child and youth programs as a Child Development Center Director, Child and Youth Services Program Administrator, Children and Youth Program Specialist and Chief of Children, Youth and Teen Programs at Marine Corps Headquarters in Virginia and on Marine Corps and Army installations in California and Germany.

Throughout her career she has served as an expert advisor, senior staff officer and consultant on child and youth development, early education, national accreditation systems, partnerships, parent education and involvement, curriculum programming, youth education support and exceptional family member programs.

Facon is a native of California. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and a Masters of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Concordia University, St. Paul, MN. She has been awarded the Commander’s Medal for Civilian Service and the Army Achievement Medal for Superior Civilian Service. Facon has also been recognized twice with the Department of Navy, Commendation for Civilian Service.

Trish Rubin is a business development consultant, speaker and writer. With more than twenty-five years experience as a communications professional and trainer, she works across theUSAand internationally, partnering with Business, Education and Not-for-Profit organizations. Her work takes her to boardrooms, to business venues, conferences, classrooms and to communities worldwide. Her mission is to promote active and continuous learning “Edventures” in organizations through Relational Communication Skill Training.

Ms. Rubin taught in grades K through collegiate level during her educational career. As a school administrator and manager, she served as district supervisor, assistant principal, curriculum director, mentor, literacy coach, and as an interim assistant superintendent.

In her role as a national educational consultant, she worked in thirty-eight states; first, as a consultant to the United States Department of Education, and later as a trainer for many public and private school districts. Currently, she is the national education consultant for USA Today Education in the field of Writing. Most recently, her books, The New York MINUTE for Business are published by Morgan James Press. A Japanese translation is due 2008.

Ms. Rubin’s work in professional and organizational development focuses on implementing processes across cultures that create continuous learning. Through Relational Communications training, she facilitates and coaches multinational businesses, corporations, medical professionals and school districts that target communication performance of staff. Her work is based on a model of sustained personal and professional development which results in improved learning.

She is a literacy specialist and curriculum developer and constructs organizational assessments that inform and measure. She partners with technology specialists to interface current technology with best practice in organizations. Her Project Partners are specialists who provide training in the areas of an organization’s learning.

Ms. Rubin is the President of the EdVentures Group, aNew Yorkbased consulting group and the author of The New York MINUTE series of business communication books. Her keynote speeches span business and educational concerns. As a one-to –one-coach, she sets the stage for support of organizational initiatives. She has presented at national and state conferences and represents international Coaching and Performance organizations. In the EdVentures Group Education Division, she works across the country, to establish communities of learning in states where performance is measured by state standards. Her work goes beyond learning for the sake of testing. Her belief is in genuine, continuous learning of the entire organization.

Ms. Rubin holds degrees in English Education,Readingand Supervision. She has a Masters degree in Government Administration from theFelsSchoolof theUniversityofPennsylvaniaand coursework in progress toward a PhD. Her various articles appear in trade and “ezine” publications nation wide. She is a member of the National Speakers Association, Rotary International, Business and Professional Women INTL, as well as other prominent organizations.
